  1. FUTURE PODCAST DEBATE BATTLE…”THE PERFECT LISTING”! Killer Podcast guys…CRUSHED IT! A must have future podcast debate is listing optimization!!! I have this personal battle with listing creation: keyword stuffing vs. clean (think amazon style guide). The key points (accurate kw search volume sources for listing creation..Merchant Words vs. Adwords vs. KWI, keyword stuffing vs. conversion optimized etc.) were debated in the podcast and is exactly what I go through with my listing. For example, I feel that if I ‘clean up’ my title by removing excessive kw word use, my rank suffers. However, if I kw stuff, my conversions may suffer. The KEY is finding that balance of pulling rank AND converting, thus the perfect listing. Also, where to get accurate kw search volume data is huge. The only true source is off PPC. I guess using converting kw from PPC is a place to start. Learning these tactics will help all listeners drive traffic that converts. Also, learning how best to optimize the backend search term fields would be AWESOME (random words, phrases with commas etc.) BATTLE ON and let the best listing WIN!!!

    • will try to make this happen.

      glad you liked it

      good luck

    • I would love to have that conversation. But my simple answer is focus on the customer and the conversion, not the search engine. If you can’t convert the sales then you are wasting your time.

  2. To follow up on one of the topics you guys discussed.

Is there value in doing a giveaway with a direct product link? I have heard recently that spiking your BSR does increase keyword rankings overall. Perhaps related to what you guys spoke about today since that will increase your sales velocity and conversions on your listing? Thanks.

  3. Thanks guys, definitely got some value bombs from that episode.
My question, whether that be answered here or in a future episode regards conversion rate. Jeff highlighted the importance of conversion rank regarding rankings, however, when I was driving outside traffic from Instagram to my product – my conversion rate pretty much halved. It’s accepted that outside traffic will convert poorer, but you also want to be driving as much traffic as possible. Curious to hear what you guys have to say on the matter.
    Cheers

  4. Great episode, Jeff’s story of starting a book business and eventually growing that into a 10,000sqft warehouse and selling truckloads of books is pretty badass. My question is what strategies, behaviors or habits does Jeff attribute his success to as an entrepreneur in both of these very different businesses? And my other question is did he spend more time per week on his business back when he was selling on amazon or today working on seller labs? Just curious. Also, I second the last commenters question, I’ve heard a lot of conflicting advice on whether sending outside traffic directly to a listing is a good thing or a bad thing knowing that conversion rates are bound to plummet, I’d just like to hear your guys thoughts on that too.
    Thanks!

  5. Great podcast. Thank you. Hearing about increasing conversion rates is helpful.

  6. Matt this is probably one of the best podcasts you’ve done to date. I seriously enjoyed the way you two challenged one anothers beliefs and reasoning then backed it up with logic. Optimizing for conversions is great advice, it’s something I’m been doing for some time now after looking through my customer search term reports. But I think the biggest take away was about launching a series of products at once. It makes you think long term and helps to quickly build that all important brand through related products. It also means you have a clear direction on where you’re taking your business and what audience you wish to serve. Great Job again Matt keep up the good work.

    • thanks jay, means a lot.
yeah, building a brand is the take away. i dont know if multiple products at once is a key but it is something i’d love to learn more about.

  7. Smashing it! I currently use Salesbacker but I’m not strong at marketing/follow up, this episode has convinced me to switch over to Feedback Genius, so many killer features and Jeff has some amazing insights I can put to good use in this conversation! Matt, thanks for catching up with him and sharing this conversation.

What I would love to hear you both debate are tips and tactics for trying to take a first time buyer, introduce them to your brand, turn them into a raving fan and increase the lifetime value of that customer. Seller feedback and product reviews are one thing, but a loyal customer offers far more value. I realise there is a great opportunity to interact directly with my customers and I feel I’m falling short out on the chance to ‘sell’ them on my brand, my values and have them coming back for more. Should I be writing an essay on my brand story? Should I be sending them some killer articles relevant to my product niche, trying to create a fan off of Amazon? I would love some tips here on how best to take advantage of this.

    • glad you liked it jarratt.

that is an interesting topic, i will see if jeff is down to chat again.

i personally send them quite a few helpful ebooks on topics in the niche not related to my products

  8. Awesome podcast. I learned so much. I am currently just dropshipping. I source most of my products from the US currently. One thing that concerns me about Amazon FBA’s future in selling to the .Com market is Trump’s plans put a trade tariff on Chinese imported products. Already with his call from Taiwan, it looks like we are in store for a real possible trade war we haven’t seen in a long time. On one hand, I say great. Someone needs to put China in their place and put an end to the currency manipulation. That being said, what if anything will be the impact on sourcing products in the future? Will we have to only source products from the US and if so, will this kill the smaller guys coming into the market? Based on other Trump rhetoric, NAFTA’s future doensn’t look great either. So, I assume Mexico is out too. Or, that is to say the tariffs may be high. Any thoughts on this would be very valuable to me and your audience I believe.

    • Manufacturing will never come back to the US. People are too lazy and the pay is too low, they will realize that and it will be China or Mexico I think.
